Faithful Perseverance

As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, I continue to marvel at the miracle of His birth.

For 450 years the prophets were relatively silent, and the people of God languished.  Still, beneath the surface in individual hearts, a light of faith continued to burn.  Promises of a Redeemer were told within families, prayers were offered, and stories were told of past deliverances to keep this flame burning from generation to generation.  And then one day, when the fullness of time had come, God sent His Son into the world to redeem us that we might receive “the full rights of sons.”  (Gal. 4:4-5)

Not only did the coming of Jesus deliver our souls from death and guarantee us eternal life with him, but Psalm 68:19 says He daily loads us with benefits, to bestow on us his bounty and to reward us daily with his goodness.

The faith of that first generation was rewarded on that day.  Humble shepherds were among the first to gaze at the answer to their faith.  Eli, holding the baby Jesus in his arms said, “My eyes have seen your salvation.”  Our living Father rewards faith, not only with the answer we have been seeking, but with Jesus himself, who daily rewards us with all the benefits He so sacrificially purchased for us when He came.
