The Growth of Our Faith

on Sunday 18, October 2009

“We ought always to thank God for you, brothers, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more.” 2 Thessalonians 1:3

How do we go about measuring the growth of our faith?  It seems impossible and imperceptible to us because usually when we are wondering if we even have any faith, it’s in the middle of a trial or challenge.

I know we have sometimes asked ourselves, “Where is God when I need him the most?”  Of course, we know that he is right there because he said he would never leave us or forsake us. Believing and trusting him, even when we cannot sense his presence because of the press of our circumstances, is FAITH!

Too often our focus is on the situation, and we fail to understand the eternal benefit that the trying of our faith produces.  Hear what the Lord says: “So be truly glad.  There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you have endured many trials for a little while.  These trials will show that your faith is genuine.  It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold – though your faith is far more precious than mere gold.  So, when your faith remains strong, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed.”  1 Peter 1:6 (NLT)

So, keep believing.  Let your faith grow as you trust the Lord to bring you through the trials and into a new level of relationship with Him.
